I think we are all trying to get fit, but it’s not always the easiest thing to do, especially if you are a bit of a couch potato like me.  But there ARE ways to get fit, at least a little more fit that are easy, cost nothing, and don’t require a lot of sweating.

Check out my article on gym memberships.  They’re great – IF you use them, but for the most part, they’re just a ripoff.  Are Gym Memberships a Good Deal?

Have an Exercise Program?  How’s it Going?

Like most women, I’ve struggled with my weight my whole life, so I’ve tried it all – gyms, treadmills, Jazzercise, dog walking, aerobic step workouts, weights, you name it.  But I could never find the time or the motivation to keep up with any of them for long.  A few years back, I remembered a kind of weird tip from my mother.  My Mom was a pretty smart lady.

I have a weird and easy way to get fit that you can do right at home in your jammies.

Some folks have the discipline needed to keep up with an exercise program.  But there are plenty of us who don’t.  If you’re going to keep a fitness program going, you need to keep it simple, simple, simple.  And that’s what she did.

Just try something totally simple (and free!)  No gym membership required

In her later years, she got into the habit of just walking around the house.  Very simple, just walking – around and around.  Laps and laps and laps.  Like I said – simple, simple, simple.  No equipment required, no special fitness clothes required (pajamas work just fine), she never had to leave the house.  If it was too hot or cold outside, she was in heated or air conditioned comfort.

I’ve started to do it now too.  I’m busy and I’ll bet you are too.  I need to get myself to work in the mornings.  Then when I get home, I’ve got tons to do.  I would rarely have time (OK, MAKE time) get to a gym or do an actual exercise program.  But a 15-20 minute walk around the house in my jammies.  That’s do-able.  It’s just so easy, and it’s just as much exercise as walking around the neighborhood.  Get fit the EASY way.

Another option – YouTube videos.  There are THOUSANDS of easy exercise videos out there for every level of fitness.  When you’ve got a couple of extra minutes, just bring up a video on your phone or tablet and move along to it.  That’s easy, right?  And doesn’t cost a dime or require any special clothing or equipment.  Brilliant, right??

This is ideal for:

  • Moms with young children
  • Older folks
  • Folks who work at home
  • People recovering from surgery or an injury
  • Overweight people who need an easy way to get started exercising

Fortunately, my house is laid out so I have a circular path between my living room and my back hallway.  But otherwise, I could just pick a path through my house.  Back and forth, or up and down the stairs.  That’s the beauty of it – it’s infinitely flexible.  It doesn’t matter if it’s raining or snowing, or hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk.  You can get a mile’s worth of steps in about 12 minutes.  You can even jog if you’re feeling frisky.  Sometimes, I’ll slip in a few rounds while I’ve got something cooking in the microwave.  Hey, steps are steps.  Why not give it a try.  What the heck?
