Hello, and welcome to my blog. Last month, I got to do something very cool. I attended a bloggers luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion with our Utah First Lady Jeanette Herbert. She has an initiative called Uplift Families. Her goal is to promote good parenting skills, strengthen families, and offer resources to parents throughout the state. I’m part of a small group of Utah bloggers who is helping her promote this terrific cause.
Here are the ladies from the luncheon. You can see me just barely up in the top corner. I was busy chatting with her Press Secretary, Steve James and almost missed the whole shot!
You’ll notice I’m in my Scout uniform (with my hands in my pockets – awkward!). You may not know this, but I am part of the BSA’s Social Media Team. I write for the Utah Scouts blog and also the Voice of the Scout blog that covers 11 Western states. Occasionally, I also do some work with National BSA. I figured this was a great way to bring two causes I love together – helping families and Scouting.
Uplift Families Resources
At the luncheon, Mrs. Herbert spoke about the UpliftFamilies.Org website and You Tube channel that her team has developed to help families here in Utah. The website has hundreds of links available, and they are all arranged by the age of your children and the type of resource you are looking for.
There is also an upcoming parenting conference that I will be attending on Saturday, August 27th at Thanksgiving Point. They’ll have speakers in a TED Talks format, only they’re called TIPS Talks (Teaching Important Parenting Skills). Past talks and other resources are available the Uplift Families YouTube channel. The Keynote Speakers at the conference will be Richard and Linda Eyre – noted authors and parents of 9 children (I believe). I’ve heard them speak before and I have a couple of their books – they’re very engaging and have a lot of useful info to share.

The tickets for the conference are $15 for individual tickets or $25 for couples, but I have a discount code that will help you receive a $5 discount. The code is 2016$5offACL and you can purchase your tickets at the Uplift Families website. This will be my first year of attending the conference, but I’ve heard from some of the other bloggers that it’s a fun evening. This year’s theme will be a luau and it will include food, desserts, music, exhibits, and special giveaways. Sounds like a fun date night to me!
