#GivingTuesday and Our Blanket Party!

Last year was my first #GivingTuesday event and I enjoyed it so much I decided to do it again.  If you have not heard of #GivingTuesday, it is a new worldwide charitable initiative that was started by the UN Foundation which sponsors my Shot@Life organization.  To my mind, it acts as the perfect antidote to #BlackFriday and #CyberMonday and all the commercialism that has crept into our holidays.  It is held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and there are charitable events and activities being held all over the world to kick off the holiday season.

Like last year, I partnered up with my friends with the MomItForward organization to tie fleece blankets for a local charity.  This year, we decided to benefit our local Ronald McDonald House Charity (RMHC).

Here is the whole Mom It Forward Crew.  These are some amazing women!

Now that is one heaping PILE ‘o blankets.  Aren’t they pretty?

The weather was absolutely vile – it took me about 2 hours to get across town from work.  So we were so pleased to have all these darling Girl Scouts and their leaders to come and help us.  I don’t think we could have gotten all of it done without their help.

I think that doing good deeds makes you pretty – don’t you agree?

These are my friends and MomItForward cohorts Lindsey and Jyl.

We were asked to do a “Selfie” for the UN Foundation campaign, although in this case we called it an UNSelfie.

This was mine.

Congrats to all our sponsors, volunteers, Girl Scouts and Mom It Forward crew on a job well done for another successful #GivingTuesday.

By the way, if you’d like to learn how to make all these pretty fleece blankets – I have a tutorial HERE and I am working on an updated version now that I am a more experienced blanket maker.  Stay tuned.
