Something New for the New Year

I just made an executive decision regarding my blog. I am going to add something new to my blog for 2010.

I’ll let you in on a big secret. This is not my only blog (wow, it sounds like I’ve been unfaithful to you or something, doesn’t it?). I have another blog, but I haven’t updated it in quite a while and I’ve always kept it separate from this one and it’s kind of secret. It’s literally, my own dirty little secret. It’s a blog about cleaning, decluttering, and home organizing. Sounds like a good thing, and it is. There are some really good posts over there, probably better than a lot of the posts I’ve had on here.

So, why have I kept it a deep, dark secret all this time? Well, honestly I’m a little ashamed to admit that my housekeeping skills are not the best. That’s a big thing to admit. One of the main criteria that other women judge you on is how clean you keep your house. Men too, to some degree, but mostly other women. And they can be kind of mean about it sometimes, so when you have a problem with your cleaning skills, you tend to be pretty quiet about it.

On the one hand, it’s a great source of shame for me, but on the other hand, it’s a source of pride for me because I’ve made a lot of progress over the years. When I look at my house from when I first got married and look at it now, there’s a big difference. I’ve learned and grown and changed thanks to some great mentors. I learned the most from the Flylady, but I also learned a lot from Pam & Peggy, the Slob Sisters, and Sandra Felton and her Messies Anonymous organization, and lots of other mentors too.

And that’s where my other blog comes in. I took all the lessons I learned over the years and all the ideas that helped me and I compiled them all into blog posts. I even used to teach classes out of my house. I had a whole 4 week curriculum all put together. I stink at marketing my ideas, so it never really got off the ground, but I taught several rounds of classes with 1 or 2 students in each and I think I really helped some of them.

So, that’s what I’m going to be adding to my blog. I’m going to take some of the best posts from my other blog, dust them off a little, and start incorporating them into this blog. So, if you’re a Messie, like me, I hope these posts will help you on your journey. On the other hand, if you’re a Cleanie, maybe you can just skip those days, or pass them on to your non-Cleanie friends. Whatever.

All I ask is that you don’t laugh at them, or make any critical comments about the posts or any comments my non-Cleanie friends may leave. I know this stuff is second nature to you and may seem a little silly, but there are a lot of people out there who really struggle with this stuff and could use the help.

So, starting tomorrow and hopefully every Monday thereafter, look for posts in purple (Flylady’s favorite color, bless her) and with the tag of Clutterbugs and those will be my cleaning posts. I hope you will enjoy them!
